Ole Mathiesen designed the first watches in 1962 with the clear intention of introducing a classic watch which was strong enough to find harmony in its own form. A watch inspired by the Danish design traditions of form follow functions which was never pretentious, neither in form nor price.
Swiss Made / Danish design
The classic Ole Mathiesen watch is considered a Danish design classic, claiming its place within the beautiful and internationally admired Danish design tradition. The watches have since 1962 been manufactured in Switzerland labeled with the prestigious "Swiss Made" mark.
The convex dial is a trademark of Ole Mathiesen and rarely used by luxury watch manufacturers any more due to the complexity in construction. The convex shape gives an extra feeling of depth and a "soft" expression - with a clear reference to the classic watch design from the 1960s.
Scratchproof Sapphire crystal
The scratchresistant Ole Mathiesen sapphire crystal is carved from a solid block into a convex shape in order to increase the strength as well as to reduce reflections in the crystal.
The ultra-thin Swiss made quartz controlled mechanical movement secure a consistently precise timekeeping.
By adding an 18-carat gold plating to the ultra-thin polished stainless-steel case it is possible to keep the discrete ultra-thin look of the classic. After the cutting and machining operations and the hand-finished polishing, circular satin brushed and mat brushed finish inside and outside, the case and bezel undergo an acid treatment before the 18-carat gold is added.
